The Kansas City Chiefs have some holes along their offensive line. Could Christian Westerman be a potential target for them in the early rounds of the 2016 NFL Draft?

Over the past few seasons, the Chiefs have seen a variety of combinations along the offensive line. Right now, the team is mainly missing starting guards and that could be an area they decide to address early on.

One of the better offensive guards in this draft is Christian Westerman out of Arizona State.

Westerman, a senior, started 25 games for the Sun Devils and started every game this past season. He spent a few seasons at Auburn, but transferred back in 2013. His main position with the Sun Devils was at left guard, which is convenient for Kansas City, as they cut Ben Grubbs this past offseason.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com compares Westerman to Alex Mack, who has excelled in the pros. Zierlein also mentions that Westerman has great athleticism and can beat defenders to the spot.

CBS Sports points out that Westerman has great blocking skills and has great awareness. They do state, however, that his size limitations could lead to him being moved to center. The Chiefs don’t necessarily need a center at the moment, but it’d be worth giving Westerman a shot at left guard and seeing what he can do there.

More from KC Kingdom

Charles Davis of NFL.com feels like Christian Westerman has the ability to be an “instant-impact rookie” in 2016. Here were his thoughts on the former Sun Devil,

"Westerman is a classic brawler at guard. He’s a tough player. I like his fight and his grit. I think he’ll be a guy who can start pretty early. He led all combine participants with 34 reps on the bench press."

This is the type of pick that could make a lot of sense for the Kansas City Chiefs. Obviously Westerman fills an area of need for the Chiefs, but he appears to have a lot of upside and plays with tons of intensity. He could be put at the guard spot or could even fill in at center if Mitch Morse is unavailable for whatever reason.

If the KC Chiefs do target Christian Westerman, they’ll likely scoop him up in the second round. He could still be available in round three, but the Chiefs currently do not have their third round pick (hopefully that gets turned over).

Would you want the Chiefs to address the offensive guard position early on in the 2016 NFL Draft?
