The 2016 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and the Kansas City Chiefs are making the final adjustments to prepare for the NFL season. With most holes being filled in the offseason, the Chiefs are able to take some risk in this year’s draft.

With outside linebacker being a very good position for the Chiefs to build up, outside linebacker Joshua Perry out of Ohio State could be a viable option for the KC Chiefs in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The 2016 Ohio State Draft class has been talked about a lot, especially players like Cardale Jones, Joey Bosa and Ezikiel Elliot, but one of the players that may be getting overlooked is outside linebacker Joshua Perry.

In 2015, Joshua Perry was a leader on and off of the field, and it showed. He recorded 105 tackles and three sacks. Perry shows the mindset and ability to be a pro player, but lacks the splash play potential.

According to NFL.com, Perry may not show the splash plays that will be on NFL top ten montages, but he will make the tackles that some will let go. This is due to his commitment to finishing the tackle no matter what the cost.

Over the last two seasons, Perry only had one broken tackle, which means he could be a very valuable player when it comes to stopping the run.

More from KC Kingdom

Perry has a very good work ethic which allows him to have better conditioning.  That means that he could play at a high level for a lot of the game which could prove useful. Perry shows very good instincts and has a very good feel of where the ball is going.

According to cbssports.com, Perry does not show the patience that would be needed from a linebacker. Perry also shows that his ability to get off blocks is not the best either.

One of the biggest issues could be his sub -par coverage skills. He is not the best coverage backer, which could effect how players look at him, especially if the teams expect linebackers to cover receivers.

Kansas City could be a place where Joshua Perry could be drafted, but it is doubtful. Overall he does not fit the mold of a Chief outside linebacker.

They are usually expected to be pass-rushers that show a knack of getting sacks no matter who blocks them.  His lack of coverage skills also do not help his case, that means that he also would not help on sub packages either.

Perry’s work ethic and leadership skills are something that makes me think with the right coaching staff he could be great, and Kansas City has a great staff so if they can make him fit in the system then he could be a great player for Kansas City.  If they are not able to, then he could be a bus for the Chiefs.
