Today’s KC Chiefs news focuses on the signings of safety Stevie Brown and outside linebacker Andy Mulumba, and also multiple KC Chiefs staff changes.

The KC Chiefs continue their quest to find Husain Abdullah‘s replacement by following up the signing of Jimmy Wilson with former New York Giants safety Stevie Brown.

The KC Chiefs also kept their search for outside linebackers to compete for Justin Houston‘s vacant spot.

The KC Chiefs are hoping newly signed outside linebacker Andy Mulumba can come in and at least push for a starting job.

Arrowhead Pride‘s Joel Thorman compared Mulumba to Dezman Moses who also played for the Green Bay Packers.

In addition to these signings, the KC Chiefs announced a total of 10 changes to their coaching staff.

The most notable change has to be the promotion of Andy Reid’s son, Britt Reid, who is now fully in charge of the KC Chiefs defensive line.

This promotion from Assistant Defensive Line Coach last year will be an interesting story line to follow this season.

No strategic move in any sport is ever questioned if the team or player keeps winning.

Reid & Son’s KC Chiefs must continue their defensive stoutness in order to quiet the naysayers of nepotism.

Also, the KC Chiefs are still making preparations for the upcoming 2016 NFL Draft.

Many prospects in the first round look promising, and it still remains uncertain which direction the KC Chiefs will go at pick number 28.

By the way, you’re welcome for the band name ‘Naysayers of Nepotism’.

The signings of Jimmy Wilson and Stevie Brown may eliminate the KC Chiefs urge to draft a safety early in this draft.

As a result, I would expect the KC Chiefs to wait until at least the fourth round until they draft either a safety or another defensive back to replace Abdullah’s unique role on the defense.

It is my hope that the KC Chiefs have already signed Abdullah’s replacement in either Wilson or Brown in order to avoid drafting a safety entirely.

As a Chicago Bears fan, I have experienced first hand the toll it takes watching your team draft safeties year after year only to watch them under-perform time and time again.

Mulumba will only strengthen the crop of players at outside linebacker that have yet to pull ahead of the rest.

Signing a bunch of bargain options at outside linebacker is a great way to address Houston’s vacant spot without breaking the bank.

I hope the KC Chiefs also decide to draft an outside linebacker as well to also give them some long-term security for Tamba Hali‘s eventual retirement.

I think Britt Reid will help maintain continuity in the defensive line schemes.

Andy Reid is well aware of the scrutiny he would receive for promoting his son, so, as a result, he would not have done it if he wasn’t confident Britt could get the job done.

This past offseason has shown us how people can misconstrue Andy’s emphasis on cultivating relationships in the NFL.

Hopefully, the Reids’ father-son relationship will be just as beneficial to the KC Chiefs as the player-coach relationship between Jeremy Maclin and Reid (without the penalties, of course).
