KC Royals News: Royals Out For Revenge

facebooktwitterreddit

Today’s KC Royals news is focused on the notion that the Royals may be out to get some revenge for the Noah Syndergaard pitch in the World Series. Frankly, it all seems made up.

Marc Carig, a writer for Newsday, ‘broke’ an article yesterday in which he claims to have sources that ‘multiple industry sources told Newsday that the Royals have been signaling their intent to seek retribution against the Mets on Opening Night’.

Honestly, this seems like nothing more than an attempt to drum up controversy and seems completely unrealistic. There are a number of reasons why it doesn’t make any sense for the Royals to retaliate, especially on opening night.

First of all, a ‘source’ could be considered any person, book, blog, etc…that provides information. The ‘sources’ could be nothing more than banter between fans or wild speculation. He’s not wrong that the Royals were pretty upset by the pitch when it happened, but things have likely cooled off now.

Josh Vernier tweeted the following yesterday afternoon which may help quell any rumors that there is still a need for retribution of any kind:

Again, for them to have plans of a retaliation on opening night of 2016 makes very little sense.

For one thing, it would be very foolish to incur any fines or suspensions on the first game of the year especially when it’s based on something from last season.

The Royals pitcher who may be most likely to retaliate already had his shot. Yordano Ventura pitched in that same game during the World Series and actually saw Syndergaard step into the box. Wouldn’t it make more sense to retaliate at that point in time rather than making Syndergaard watch one of his teammates get plunked?

The Royals also played two more games in that series with ample opportunity to get back at the Mets. Instead, they hit them where it hurts the most…the win/loss column.

There was also no mention as to a specific player or players from the Royals who were out for revenge. Alex Gordon, an undisputed leader on the team summed things up quite nicely in response to Noah Syndergaards tricks: “We had a trick up our sleeves too, and it’s called World Series Champs”.

The Royals already got any retribution that they should need. Winning the World Series, in the opponents arena no less, should be more than enough to make everyone feel like justice was served.

Jeffrey Flanagan also had this to say about the ‘retribution’:

If that’s not enough, Noah Syndergaard has to sit on the sidelines in a few days and watch as the Royals perform not one, but two World Series ceremonies. In case he hasn’t reached out to Brett Lawrie about what it’s like to be public enemy number one in Kansas City, he’ll be met with a chorus of booing when he takes the field.

If the Royals have any ideas of payback, hopefully it stops there…as an idea. If they want to get back at Syndergaard for any wrongdoing they feel was done to them, they need to focus on doing it in the box score. Hang two ‘W’s up in those two games to open the season and there isn’t much more ‘retribution’ needed.
