KC Chiefs news is about Husain Abdullah announcing his retirement and how the Chiefs have holes to fill on their roster.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost yet another player, but this time it wasn’t to free agency, but to retirement. Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah opted to retire after seven years in the league (three with Kansas City) due to the multiple concussions he sustained during his career.

Abdullah finished his time in Kansas City with 108 tackles, 17 defended passes, and two interceptions (both returned for touchdowns) in 21 starts. He only started three games in 2015 and played in 11 total, but ultimately, concussions were the reason he decided to retire at age 30.

With Abdullah’s retirement, the Chiefs have yet another area to fill on their roster. Eric Berry and Ron Parker are the two starting safeties on the team, but who else is there? Apparently, Jamell Fleming will be moved to safety this season, but the team definitely needs to upgrade the safety position.

The Chiefs also need to look at upgrading the cornerback and wide receiver positions, which they can do through the draft.

One of the areas that could come as a shock to draft is at the quarterback position. While Alex Smith is the obvious starter, Chase Daniel is gone, and no one knows what Tyler Bray and Aaron Murray are capable of. Could the Chiefs look to draft a quarterback later on to be the future franchise guy?

The Chiefs will have to find a new safety depth now that Husain Abdullah won’t be back in 2016. The team lost some key players in free agency, but were able to get some decent guys to town like Mitchell Schwartz, and also re-signed Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, and Jaye Howard, all of whom are key defensive players.

It should be a good season for the Chiefs, but with Oakland getting better, the division won’t be the Chiefs’ for very long. Here’s to hoping the loss of Abdullah isn’t a huge deal in the long run.
