Kansas City Chiefs: 2016 Season Is Crucial
With three years down in the John Dorsey/Andy Reid era of Kansas City Chiefs football, fans are now expecting the system to fall into place. The 2016 season needs to be a successful one for Kansas City football.
KC Chiefs fans waited a long time for a playoff win: 22 years to be exact. Now that that playoff win has finally occurred, the Chiefs and the fans can start looking ahead to what lies ahead next – Making it to and winning the Super Bowl.
Now I’m not saying that the Chiefs are going to win the Super Bowl in 2016, but it’s extremely crucial that they have a winning season in 2016 and win another playoff game or two. Basically, they have to contend and be relevant in 2016.
The window is currently wide open for Kansas City when it comes to winning in the NFL, and windows can close on a team at any moment.
There’s a lot to like about the Chiefs heading into the 2016 season.

- They maintained a lot of their key free agents by re-signing Tamba Hali, Jaye Howard, Derrick Johnson, and even lower key guys like Frank Zombo. Yes, losing Jeff Allen, Tyvon Branch, Chase Daniel, and Sean Smith hurts, but you can’t keep everyone. That’s just the business aspect of the NFL.
- It’ll be the fourth year that Dorsey/Reid/Alex Smith have been in Kansas City, and they should know the drill by now.
- The Chiefs finally won a playoff game in the 2015 season, so that monkey is off the back of the team.
- Talent! This team is pretty stacked for the most part and they have seven picks (hopefully eight again) in the draft to help build on that talent.
There are, however, some areas that concern me. Rooting for the KC Chiefs my entire life has taught me not to get too cocky, so I’m still holding back a little bit on 2016 being awesome.

First of all, while the Broncos have had a terrible offseason, there’s another team in the AFC West that has been throwing their cash out on some of the biggest free agents this offseason. For the first time in 16 seasons, the Raiders could be the scariest team in the AFC West.
It’s a weird feeling, as the division really is up for grabs in 2016, and people seem to think the Raiders have a chance to be the division winner this year. The Broncos no longer have Peyton and the Chargers continue to ignore fixing their offensive line and their defense. This leaves the Chiefs and Raiders fighting for the AFC West in 2016.
If this season becomes a lost cause early on, it’ll be tough to have faith in this group down the stretch. The window is open, Kansas City… Let’s keep it open for a few more years and bring home some championships.
