The Kansas City Chiefs have gone with defensive players in the first round the past two years. Could they do the same thing in the 2016 NFL Draft by selecting Emmanuel Ogbah?

Defense is an important thing for the KC Chiefs, and we’ve all witnessed just how far a dominant defense can take you. Will that inspire John Dorsey and the Chiefs to go with another defensive player in the first round this year? If so, Emmanuel Ogbah out of Oklahoma State would be a fine choice.

Ogbah recorded 12 and a half sacks last season with the Cowboys, and that was enough to help him decide to declare early for the NFL Draft. He finished his OSU career with 133 tackles, 26.5 sacks, nine defended passes, five forced fumbles, and two recovered fumbles.

Analysts rave about Ogbah’s size. He’s 6’4″ and 273 pounds, which makes him extremely difficult to block. He has experience lining up on both the left side and the right side, which would make him an excellent addition to this Chiefs defense.

Ogbah seems to get criticized for not being quick enough on the field. It’s also unfair to use this for him, but him being from Oklahoma State is brought up too, as their first round picks have not fared well in recent years.

Ogbah did have an impressive combine showing though, which should help his draft stock. He’s big and has shown that he has a knack at getting to the quarterback.

Bucky Brooks of NFL.com praised Ogbah after the combine, saying,

More from KC Kingdom

"His name is flying up boards after a dazzling display in Lucas Oil Stadium that showcased his combination of size, strength, speed and explosiveness on the turf. Although he is strictly a straight-line power rusher off the edge, Ogbah’s athleticism, force and production will make it hard for coaches and scouts to ignore his potential as a top prospect."

Ogbah has been linked with the Carolina Panthers by the CBS Sports analysts, meaning he’d still be on the board when the Chiefs pick at number 28. While it would be awesome if Kansas City did add Ogbah to their dominant defense, there are probably other greater needs for the team in this draft.
