The Kansas City Chiefs have built up one of the best defenses in the NFL. Unfortunately, free agency could be a factor in that defense not remaining intact. Should the Chiefs look at drafting Robert Nkemdiche to keep the defense strong?

The KC Chiefs are in a pretty good spot this year when it comes to the draft. At the moment, there’s really no immediate need that the team needs to fill.

Of course, a lot of questions will be answered once free agency arrives here shortly, but the Chiefs could really go in just about any direction this year with their first round pick.

One of the more intriguing prospects in the 2016 NFL Draft is Robert Nkemdiche out of Ole Miss. Nkemdiche, a junior defensive tackle, is considered to be one of the better defensive tackles available in the draft, but the guy has stirred up some controversy during his college career.

Nkemdiche was suspended for Ole Miss’ Sugar Bowl appearance due to being arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. There was also controversy surrounding Nkemdiche when he fell out of a window in December, and was thought to be under the influence of drugs.

He’s got the size and ability to be a great player in the pros, but it’s the character issues off the field that worry me, and that should worry NFL teams.

These character issues are definitely concerning, as NFL fans have seen just how badly these issues can carry over into the pros (Johnny Manziel anyone?). Nkemdiche should still be a first round pick, but he did not seem to have a very good showing at the Combine, at least according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports.

That negative Combine could cause him to slip in the first round, and possibly fall all the way to Kansas City at pick 28. If he’s still there, it might be tough to pass up on the Ole Miss standout.

What Nkemdiche could offer the Chiefs is the ability to stop the run. He’s great at not letting running backs get past him and he’s the perfect size for an NFL defensive tackle.

Nkemdiche had six sacks during three years of work with the Rebels and he totaled 81 tackles. He’s got the size and ability to be a great player in the pros, but it’s the character issues off the field that worry me, and that should worry NFL teams.
