KC Royals News: Salvador Perez and Eric Hosmer
KC Royals news focuses on Salvador Perez getting an extension, and Eric Hosmer being open to a long-term deal with the team.
The Kansas City Royals sure have been busy during spring training! They inked a contract extension with catcher Salvador Perez worth $52.5 million over five years. That ties him to the Royals through the year 2021.
It’s a great deal for the Royals, as Perez will get $36 in guaranteed money and the option years are worth $16.5. The Royals are going in a new direction, locking up their two big leaders in Perez and Alex Gordon, whom they re-signed this January to the largest deal in franchise history.
Speaking of fan favorites, Eric Hosmer has expressed interest in signing a long-term deal with the Royals. Hosmer will be with the Royals for two more seasons before hitting free agency. He’ll be 28 when he hits free agency after the 2017 season, which will work to his advantage.
We’ve seen the type of deals that young star players get in free agency, and Hosmer will be no different. If the Royals could somehow keep him in the organization after 2017, that’d be huge.

"Hosmer also continued, stating that moving to a market such as New York or Los Angeles for marketability was not important. His focus is on winning championships, which, if Moore can keep the Royals core together as he intends, leads Hosmer to feel his best chance at another title would be in Kansas City."
