Round 7 – Pick 28: Darrion Griswold, Tight End (Arkansas State)

With their final pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the KC Chiefs go with a tight end in Darrion Griswold. Griswold may have went to a lesser known school, but the talent is definitely there.

More from Chiefs Draft Analysis

For one, the guy is 6’5″ tall and weighs 255 pounds, so he’d be pretty difficult to bring down after getting the ball. He could be a great weapon to use in the red zone due to his size.

He played basketball in high school and is a good “leaper” as NFL.com puts it. When you have a man who is 6’5″ already on the field and then leaping over guys under six feet tall, I like those odds of Griswold ending up with the football.

Griswold would be a perfect example of a low risk, high reward candidate. He’d be a seventh round pick, and the Chiefs already have Travis Kelce as their starting tight end. Griswold could be a special teams guy until the time comes for him to have his shot on the offense.

While this pick won’t excite many people, it’s just the kind of pick that people could look back on and say, “Wow, that was a really great value pick”. Think Zach Fulton and Junior Hemingway, both were late round selections and both contributed to the team in their first two years.
