KC Chiefs News: Jamaal Charles and Free Agency

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Chiefs news has been a bit slow lately, but free agency continues to be a trending topic. Jamaal Charles is also making headlines.

Who would have thought the day would come when retired NFL players were saying that it’s time for the Kansas City Chiefs to move on from Jamaal Charles? Charles, who the team drafted in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft, only played in five games last year after suffering his second ACL tear in just five seasons.

Sure, it’s a concerning factor, but come on. This is Jamaal Charles.

The comments, by the way, came from Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk. Faulk went on the record saying,

"“The conversation is, ‘Why does Kansas City keep Jamaal Charles when you saw Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West? For what reason?'”~~~“I can’t even see what reason they would continue to pay (him) if they have a way of getting up from under that contract and dispersing money elsewhere to fill some of the gaps that they have. And that’s just real talk — that’s the business of the game– Quote courtesy of Kevin Patra of NFL.com"

Pretty strong words from the Hall of Fame running back. Does he have a point though? Charles has suffered two ACL injuries in the past five seasons. Also, the biggest factor of all is that the KC Chiefs offense fared just fine without Charles down the stretch. In fact, they won 11 games without him.

Now I’m not campaigning one way or the other. Jamaal Charles is the best running back that the Kansas City Chiefs organization has seen, but he’ll be turning 30 at the end of 2016. That’s the age when running backs’ careers usually are headed downhill.

Free agency is always being discussed too in the NFL. With so many guys hitting the market for the Chiefs, John Dorsey will have his work cut out for him. Who will stay and who will go?

Colin Kaepernick to the Kansas City Chiefs? [Nick Floyd, Arrowhead Addict]

"Kaepernick has had the very definition of an up-and-down career. Taking over for a concussed Smith, he eventually lead the Super Bowl only to be bested by the Baltimore Ravens. Kaepernick had two good years before 2015, which saw him benched and eventually placed on injured reserve."

No, the Chiefs should not cut Jamaal Charles and here’s why [MNchiefsfan, Arrowhead Pride]

Hearing that Eric Berry is a priority for the KC Chiefs to re-sign this offseason is very promising. Hopefully, if that does happen, it’ll provide the opportunity for the team to place the franchise tag on either Sean Smith or Jaye Howard.
