KC Royals Payroll for 2016: Dead Money and Minor League Signings

The KC Royals do have some dead money still sitting on the table. This money refers to contract buy-outs and players released that were under contract. The team also signed three veterans to minor league contracts, and will pay the following amounts if the players make the team.

Minor League Contracts

  • Dillon Gee – $2 million
  • David Huff – $1.1 million
  • Chien Ming-Wang – $1 million

These players account for another $9.47 million toward the payroll.

The Royals are on the hook for these contracts but have other players they signed who might have an outside chance to make the team. Travis Snider, John Lannan, and Peter Moylan could be candidates for the Opening Day roster.

Snider, in particular, might be able to impress enough to make it as the fifth outfielder/pinch hitter.

If any other these non-roster invitees make the team, the payroll will only go up.
