Kansas City Chiefs Were So Close To Division Title
The Kansas City Chiefs had an impressive season in 2015, that led with them winning 11 straight games. As great as that was, they really should have been the AFC West champions.
One minute in week two against the Denver Broncos very well could have been the difference in who won this year’s Super Bowl. Now I’m not saying that the Broncos didn’t deserve to win Super Bowl 50. They had a terrific defense and they absolutely deserved it.
All I’m saying here is that had the Chiefs not been so boneheaded with their play calling in week two against Denver, Kansas City could have scratched out a win against a division rival and possibly have gone on to win the division.
Think about it. That game changed everything. The Chiefs had no momentum after their embarrassing loss to Denver on Thursday Night Football. They went on to lose their next four games and seemed to be out of any type of playoff race.
As the season went on and the Chiefs got their swag back, it appeared to be too late for them to win the AFC West. Somehow, it only came down to one game. The Broncos finished the year with a 12-4 record, and the Chiefs finished 11-5. One game away, and it very well could have been that stupid game in week two.

Had the Chiefs won in week two, they’d have been 2-0, the Broncos would have been 1-1. Kansas City also would have swept the division (assuming that the same results occurred) and would have earned a home game in the playoffs as well as a first round bye.
It may not be fun to think about all of this, but it is promising for the future. The Kansas City Chiefs can hang with the Denver Broncos, and they proved it in 2015. They lost in humiliating fashion in week two, but despite turning the ball over FIVE times, still were in the game. That’s how bad Denver’s offense was.
In week ten, the Chiefs crushed the Broncos’ hopes and dreams, picking Peyton Manning off four times and getting him benched for the first time in his career. It was promising to see that the offense could put up points against that tough defense, and it shows that this could be quite the showdown in 2016.

Something to keep in mind is that the Broncos could have an entirely new quarterback running things for them. Manning will likely be gone, and Brock Osweiler could be signed by a different team. While I doubt that will be the case, Osweiler isn’t exactly a scary quarterback.
On the other side, the Chiefs could be losing some critical pieces on their defense. They must keep that defense tough in order to contend with the Broncos for the division in 2015 because as we all witnessed, winning home field advantage in the playoffs is huge.
