I should point out that it doesn’t have to go one of two ways. Every once in a while you’ll see a game-changer come up through the minors that wasn’t expected. Perhaps someone who it just clicked later than expected. With that in mind, here are a few guys to keep your eyes on:

More from KC Kingdom

  1. Jose Martinez – At 26 years old, Martinez put together an extremely impressive 341 at-bats. He hit .384 with a .461 OBP, and 10 home runs.
  2. Brett Eibner –  A former second round draft pick by the Royals in 2010 out of Arkansas, Eibner showed some of what the Royals were expecting to get out of that selection. He hit .303, slugged .514 and hit 19 home runs.
  3. Raymond Fuentes – Fuentes was a first round pick by the Boston Red Sox in 2009, and was later involved in a blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Rizzo to the Padres for Adrian Gonzalez.  Fuentes never did much in San Diego, and was traded to the Kansas City Royals in 2014 for Kyle Bartsch. Now at 25 years old, Fuentes put together a nice year in Omaha in 2015. He hit .308, stole 29 bases, and hit nine home runs in 396 at-bats.
  4. Balbino Fuenmayor – At 25 years old, Fuenmayor was plucked from Independent League baseball of all places, by the Kansas City Royals. He spent the majority of his time in AA, but finished with a strong performance in AAA as well. The ONLY position he could think about playing is first base, but is more likely pegged for a DH role. Between AA and AAA, Fuenmayor hit .358, slugged .589 and hit 17 home runs in just 360 at-bats.

The reality is such that none of these guys are likely to turn into a star, or anything productive at the MLB level.  Whatever Moore touches, however, seems to turn to gold these days.  Let’s hope he has few tricks up his sleeve to keep Kansas City a winning baseball town.
