KC Chiefs Focus On Offense In 2016 NFL Mock Draft
Round 5 – Pick 26: K.J. Dillon (Safety, West Virginia)
The Kansas City Chiefs address the secondary with their other fifth round pick, and they do so by selecting K.J. Dillon out of West Virginia. Dillon, a four-year Mountaineer, is credited with good athleticism and doing well with man-to-man coverage.
The need for a safety in Kansas City will be known more as free agency progresses. Both Husain Abdullah and Eric Berry are able to join the free agent market this offseason, but there have been increased talks about bringing Berry back.

If one of those two guys leave, there will still be need for another as a backup or in case of injury (Ron Parker is a solid safety on the other side). Dillon wouldn’t step in right away, at least not as a starter, but with four interceptions in the past two seasons, he’s shown he has the ability to get after the football. He also defended 20 passes during his four years at West Virginia.
Some of Dillon’s weaknesses are that he holds if he thinks he’s been beaten out by the receiver, and is not a great tackler.
Adding a safety late in the draft is the direction that the Chiefs go in in this particular mock draft. Will they continue the trend on defense?
