Today’s KC Chiefs news focuses on Alex Smith and…his face?!

Alex Smith may have lost to Tom Brady in the playoffs but he recently beat him in a more important category: Best face (Relax, I’m joking).

An upcoming issue of Sports Illustrated features an article that studies the attractiveness of quarterbacks. The article, written by Jon Wertheim and Sam Sommers, seeks to answer the question: Are quarterbacks the most attractive people in football?

Quarterbacks came in third place in the ‘eye test’, literally, but Alex Smith came out on top. He was ranked number one in the ‘best looking quarterback’ category, but quarterbacks as a group fell behind wide receivers and defensive backs.

So, is Alex Smith the face of the franchise? If so, the Chiefs have the best face, at quarterback, in football. It’s not a championship win but as Chiefs’ fans we’ll take all the love we can get (Again, joking…kind of).

Alex Smith has been a breath of fresh-air for the KC Chiefs, and not just because he’s apparently easy on the eyes. He has his fair share of doubters, as he has throughout his career, but he’s been very consistent for the Chiefs.

If he isn’t busy not turning the ball over, he’s scrambling for first downs with his legs. He is the ‘winning-est’ quarterback in any three year period for the Chiefs so he must be doing something right.

"We can put part of the Alex Smith argument to rest. Smith has proven that he can take a team to the playoffs and get a win. He can lead a team on a possible Super Bowl run. The Chiefs roster is coming together. A few key additions and Kansas City is looking at a three-year window to make that run. That happens to be the length of Alex Smith’s remaining contract."

Alex Smith received some high praise from former player Bart Scott this week. Scott mentioned that he would have “won two Super Bowls” if Alex Smith had been his quarterback. This may have just been him throwing shade at Mark Sanchez rather than complimenting Smith.

Hopefully, that praise turns into to something realistic. If Alex Smith can take the Chiefs to the promised land, they’ll have accomplished what they set out to do back in 1993: Win a Super Bowl by trading for a San Francisco 49ers quarterback.

Alex Smith is no Joe Montana, but he doesn’t have to be. Smith needs to protect the football, and his face apparently, and keep his legs moving. He does struggle with some aspects of his game, but is certainly capable of winning a super bowl. If Peyton Manning and his dead arm can walk away with a win this Sunday, then Alex Smith has more than enough to accomplish that feat.
