The current KC Chiefs will be watching Super Bowl 50 from home, but six former players will get a closer look at the action.

When Super Bowl 50 gets underway on Sunday evening, six former Chiefs will be on the field. OK, Cyrus Gray isn’t an active player and is really signed to a reserve/futures contract so technically he joins the Broncos in the off-season. Gray played a very limited role with the Chiefs tallying 99 yards rushing on 24 carries in his career.

Let’s move on to the players who could actually make some kind of an impact. The five players that could actually see the field in this game are:

  • Jared Allen
  • Kurt Coleman
  • Ryan Harris
  • Vance Walker
  • Kyle Love

Jared Allen has missed all of the post-season thus far with a foot injury but recently said he was ready to go. In an article by Kevin Patra, a writer for Around the NFL, Allen was quoted in saying the following:

"“I feel great,” Allen said. “Honestly, I feel, hopefully, I’ll be a tremendous factor in this game. So, as far as physically, 100 percent ready to go, just preparing like normal.”"

Allen is a few years removed from double-digit sack totals and had only two with the Panthers this season. Allen get’s the benefit of going against a weak offensive line in the Broncos and a quarterback that falls down when there’s pressure. It would be fun to see him have a big game.

Kurt Coleman is the other player that could have a big impact on this game. Coleman only played one season with the KC Chiefs in 2014. In his limited time with the team he had three interceptions and played fairly well. Coleman has played phenomenally for the Panthers this season with 90 combined tackles, seven interceptions, a touchdown, and a sack. If Coleman can continue this level of play in the Super Bowl, Carolina could have a good shot at winning.

Ryan Harris will see a lot of playing time but likely won’t have a huge impact on the game. If he does, it will likely be a negative one. Playing tackle for the Broncos, Harris will have to prevent a good edge rush by the Panthers. Protecting the quarterback is not something the Broncos have excelled at this year, and this will be no easy task.

Kyle Love and Vance Walker both play defensive tackle and only played one season for the Chiefs. Walker was released after the first year of his three year contract. He managed only two starts with the Chiefs before totaling four starts for Denver this season. It’s kind of hard to believe they were ranked number one in defense with the help of Vance Walker.

Kyle Love played in one game in his time with the Chiefs and didn’t record any stats in that time. He does have two sacks with the Panthers this year and could see a limited role in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

While the current KC Chiefs aren’t going to the Super Bowl this year, there is a lot they can learn from these two teams. The Chiefs are a lot like the Panthers actually. They have a defense that thrives on turnovers with a quarterback that can move around in the pocket. No, Alex Smith is not going to push the pile of defenders or break a lot of tackles like Newton does, but they’re both dangerous as running quarterbacks.

Hopefully, this time next year, the Chiefs will have 53 players in the Super Bowl. For now, you have a few former Chiefs to cheer for on Sunday.

What do you think Chiefs’ fans? Will Jarred Allen get a sack this Sunday? Will Kurt Coleman be last year’s Malcolm Butler? Who are you pulling for in the Super Bowl? Let me know in the comments section below.
