KC Royals News: Free Agency and the Offseason

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Royals news fixates on the Royals’ offseason thus far and how the boys in blue have fared in free agency.

For a Kansas City Royals team that just won the World Series, this offseason has seemed to fly by. Last year, fans couldn’t wait for the offseason to be over with so that they could see their favorite baseball team go out there and redeem themselves after being 90 feet short of tying Game 7 of the World Series.

This season, it’s a different story. The KC Royals are World Series champions, and fans want to soak that up as long as humanly possible.

There have definitely been some good news regarding the Royals’ offseason though, as they managed to retain Alex Gordon on a four-year deal and also brought in Ian Kennedy to help with starting pitching. Both of these guys will help the Royals make an impact in the next few years, and hopefully can get the boys in blue back to a third straight World Series.

Some of the more negative aspects, however, involve losing fan favorite Ben Zobrist as well as ace pitcher Johnny Cueto. Both guys set their sights on National League teams, and will no longer be calling Kansas City home (although to be fair… they probably never did).

With spring training just around the corner, fans are anxiously awaiting the start of the 2016 season. This season will be different from the past few seasons, however, as the Royals are the top dogs heading into 2016.

Opening Day will bring a World Series flag being hung up at Kauffman Stadium and the players on last year’s team will receive their World Series rings. This will be all too awkward for the opposing team on Opening Day, as it’s the same team that the Royals BEAT in the World Series in the New York Mets. Should be fun!

"Spring Training is right around the corner and there is a free-agent second basemen still on the market. Howie Kendrick is entering his age 32 season and it’s worth wondering if the Royals will have any interest in the veteran ‘two-bagger’."
