KC Chiefs: Good, Bad, Ugly VS Patriots In AFC Divisional Round
The Good: Jason Avant
Let’s be honest. There wasn’t a lot of good in this one, but Jason Avant stood out the most.
Maclin was the team’s leader on offense and with the Patriots defense doing a good job at slowing Travis Kelce down, it was nice to see a veteran guy like Avant step up for Smith.
While Jeremy Maclin played in this game, he was still feeling the effects of his ankle sprain from last week’s game and it showed. Maclin ended the day with only two receptions for 23 yards.
The other wide receivers the Chiefs had available were Albert Wilson, Chris Conley, and Avant. Avant hadn’t been super effective mainly because Maclin and Wilson appeared to be the main receivers Alex Smith would target during the regular season.
With that said, however, Avant showed up for his team on Saturday. He had four grabs for 69 yards with a long of 26 yards. One of those plays was a huge catch from a scrambling Alex Smith, who got out of what should have been a sack.
Avant also had a critical diving catch on fourth down near the end of the game that kept the Chiefs’ hopes alive.
Not having a healthy Maclin out there very well could have been the difference maker for this Chiefs team. Maclin was the team’s leader on offense and with the Patriots defense doing a good job at slowing Travis Kelce down, it was nice to see a veteran guy like Avant step up for Smith.
