KC Royals news fixates on the boys in blue looking to revamp their starting pitching with Ian Kennedy or some other free agents.

When the Kansas City Royals won the World Series in 2015, they did so with a less than stellar starting rotation. What worked for the Royals in this scenario was that their bullpen was just so darn good.

The Royals might not be so lucky in 2016 if they choose to trot out the same starters from a year ago. It’s time to buckle down and sign a free agent to this team.

Now obviously the big time options like Zack Greinke and David Price (even former Royal Johnny Cueto) are off the table, nor would the Royals have spent big time bucks on them anyway, but the Royals can still get a decent starting pitcher. The problem is that if the Royals target – say Ian Kennedy – they would have to give up their first round draft pick to the San Diego Padres.

The Royals have been a team known to work with their young prospects and build them into leaders. Take Alex Gordon, Mike Moustakas, and Eric Hosmer for example – All three of these guys were brought up in the KC Royals farm system and have all done great things in the MLB (at least recently, in Moose’s case).

Dayton Moore knows what he’s doing. He knows the window for this team to win isn’t going to be open forever, and that to get to a third straight World Series and win a second consecutive World Series, he might have to switch the game plan up a bit and get talent for the present day rather than for the future.

While the Royals have been linked to Kennedy quite a bit recently, is he the type of pitcher the Kansas City Royals want to add to their World Series winning rotation?

KC Royals Should Think of Big Picture before Signing Kennedy [Aaron Todd, Kings of Kauffman]

"While it is not yet known how much cash it would take to sign Kennedy it is known that in order to secure the services of the 31-year old right hander the Royals would have to surrender their 2016 first round draft pick (24th overall). So the question for the Royals is simply this; are the services of Ian Kennedy worth surrendering another potential piece of the future of the franchise?"
