Do any of these players belong on the Royals?

There is upside to all of the players that currently roam the Rockies outfield, but my opinion is they’re a better fit somewhere else. Charlie Blackmon seems like he’d be the best fit, but he’s still a big risk and his team control and recent success would require a big return.

The Royals have a lot of internal options including current big league players in Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando. There are several players that are considered ‘fringe’ prospects awaiting a shot in the likes of Brett Eibner, Reymond Fuentes, and Jose Martinez. Bubba Starling will also be looking for a spot in the outfield at some point so the Royals likely don’t need a long term option in the outfield.

There are also still quality free agent players available who may be available on short term low risk contracts in the likes of Marlon Byrd, Alex Rios, and Will Venable.

With the prospect pool already depleted, and the internal options to handle right field duties in house, I think the Royals would be best served by staying away from the trade market. Eventually, as painful as it’s going to be, the core group of players is going to start to break up and the Royals will need to have the prospects handy to accommodate that. The Royals are still in great shape to compete for years to come in spite of the expected departure, but they’ll have to rely on the young stars they’ve still got.

So what do you think? Should the Royals dispense of more prospects to get a right fielder with upside? Should the Royals seek out a quality free agent at a low cost? Or should the Royals strive to fill the vacancy internally?
