The Royals have two viable rotation fillers in Kennedy and Gallardo, but who should they target. Both have their pros and Cons.

Kennedy is probably going to cost less than Gallardo and could even come on a short term deal looking to increase his value. He is an extreme fly ball pitcher which may play well in Kansas City, but he’s also mostly untested in the AL and his short test hasn’t been pretty.

Gallardo comes with a good track record of success and could likely slot in as the number two or number three starter. His cost is going to be extremely high and will most likely require a long term contract.

Personally, I’d rather see Gallardo than Kennedy. He’s got a better track record and isn’t as much of a gamble. He also pitched well for the Rangers in the playoffs last year, and that’s something that should appeal to the Royals.

While, I’d rather have Gallardo, Kennedy seems more up Dayton Moore’s alley in terms of cost. His likely deal would fit the Royals’ profile of signing guys to short term, bounce-back deals, compared to long term commitments.

Is there another starter on the free-agent market you’d like to see added? Or do the Royals have enough pitching depth already? Let’s discuss in the comments section below.
