Well, it was a long time coming, but the Kansas City Chiefs finally won a playoff game, and they did so in blowout fashion to the Houston Texans.

What were you doing the last time the Chiefs won in the postseason? I was three years old and don’t remember the game. I’m now 25 years old with a college degree and a full-time job (not to mention, this cushy blogging gig on the side).

My point being that I had yet to experience my Chiefs winning in the playoffs, and it was something that I questioned would ever happen. Saturday changed all of that though, as the Chiefs dominated the Texans and won 30-0. Houston was the first team to be shut out in the playoffs since the Giants in 2005.

The game started off with a bang, as Knile Davis took the first kickoff 106 yards for a touchdown to immediately put Kansas City on top. The defense picked Brian Hoyer off three times and forced him to fumble once, yet the offense didn’t do much in the first half and only led 13-0 heading to the locker room at half time.

Fortunately, the offense didn’t have to do much, as the Chiefs defense held the Texans to no points. The Chiefs tacked on 17 more points in the second half including one passing touchdown to Chris Conley and one rushing touchdown from Spencer Ware.

It wasn’t a super exciting game, but hey… This is something that the Chief hadn’t been able to accomplish since 1994. That’s a long time.

Sure, obviously fans want to see the Chiefs continue to win, but just getting that damn monkey off their back had to feel good. It was unthinkable that the Chiefs would even be at this point after starting the season 1-5 and losing Jamaal Charles for the year.

The Texans aren’t a very good football team and that was evident in this performance. Hoyer couldn’t get anything going against the Chiefs’ defense and was picked off four times in this game. Houston fans were booing him pretty much the entire time on after that third interception.

Easily the best part of the Chiefs performance was their defense. They held Houston to zero points and kept all of the momentum on Kansas City’s side, which is exactly what you want in a playoff game (or any game for that matter).

The KC offense wasn’t spectacular, but they didn’t have to be when the defense plays the way that they did. Alex Smith threw an interception early, but made some nice passes. He even hit rookie Chris Conley for a touchdown in the second half.

Cairo Santos had a nice day, kicking two 49 yard field goal attempts to give the Chiefs a 13-0 lead at half time.

All around, it was a nice team effort for the Kansas City Chiefs.
