The Kansas City Royals weren’t always a relevant team. They may have made headlines the past two (even three) seasons due to their winning ways, but what helped get them to those winning ways was through these big trades.

Sending Zack Greinke, an ace pitcher, to Milwaukee wasn’t easy, but the Royals got Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar in that deal. Those two guys would be the ALCS MVPs in back to back years.

Trading for James Shields was a huge move, especially since it cost three promising prospects. It was worth it, however, as both Shields and Wade Davis provided the Royals with more than anyone could have imagined on the mound.

Sending Wildcard hero Brandon Finnegan to Cincinnati for Johnny Cueto was risky, but it paid off. Cueto pitched his way to a World Series title, and Royals fans won’t forget it.

Zobrist became one of the most liked Royals in team history during his short time here. He backed that up by playing great offense and defense on the diamond, and really showing he cared about the team when he gave his daughter the middle name of Royal.

All of these trades were huge risks, but Dayton Moore proved his worth as a general manager, as all four trades paid off and had a hand in getting the Kansas City Royals their first World Series title in 30 years.

And who knows? Maybe the Royals will be apart of yet another big trade this off season that we can eventually add to this list.
