KC Chiefs News: Are The Chiefs A Legitimate Contender

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Chiefs news is all about how the team continues to win. Are these Kansas City Chiefs legitimate contenders come playoff time?

As longtime Kansas City Chiefs fans know, the postseason hasn’t been kind to our team. The Chiefs have not won a playoff game since the 1993 season when Joe Montana was the quarterback in Kansas City. Not only that, but the team the Chiefs beat that year (Houston Oilers) are no longer an NFL team.

Since that day when the Chiefs were last victorious in the postseason, they’ve gone an astounding 0-8 in the playoffs.

Even in playoff games where it seemed like the Chiefs would pull out a win, they’d still fall in defeat. 1995 was the game when Lin Elliott missed three field goals in a 10-7 final against the Colts at Arrowhead. Two years later, the Chiefs would also lose at Arrowhead, only to division rival Denver.

Six years later, the Chiefs had a 13-3 record and a first round bye. They hosted the Indianapolis Colts in what would later be known as the “no punt game” and lost 38-31.

Are these memories bumming you out yet? Because we haven’t even discussed the playoff game from two years ago, where the Chiefs blew a 28-point lead to the Colts. Why do the Chiefs always play the Colts in the playoffs anyway?

With the way this season is currently going, analysts seem to be high on the Kansas City Chiefs heading to the playoffs. They’re currently ranked ninth in the ESPN power rankings and are one of the hottest teams in football.

The KC Chiefs have been playing well, that’s for sure. They’ve won eight straight games, and have proven that when their defense is on and forcing turnovers, they’re a force to be reckoned with in the AFC. The offense hasn’t been great, but as we saw in Super Bowl 48, defense wins you Super Bowls. The offense just has to be mediocre at best.

Kansas City Chiefs: How far can they go? [Arrowhead Addict]

"A team that wins eight games in a row is a good team, period. A team that beats teams by an average score of 30-12 during that eight game win streak is a good team, period. However, the fact that the eight game win streak has come against teams with a combined record of 43-54 has many questioning just how good KC is."

Now, take a look at what the rest of the world wide web is saying about the Chiefs being a legit contender.

"The Chiefs have also coalesced into a team that should legitimately worry potential playoff opponents. This is because Kansas City has essentially been playing elimination football since October and has managed to keep up the intensity."

"Eight wins in a row. That’s an incredible run of dominance by any NFL team, but for one that once owned a .166 win percentage, it’s a miracle."

I don’t think any of us expected this type of run by the Chiefs after that abysmal 1-5 start to the season. A lot of us were probably already looking ahead to draft season and wondering if this would be the year the Chiefs would take a quarterback in the first round.

Now, however, the draft is the last thing on any of our minds as we tune in each week to see if our Chiefs keep winning.

With two more games remaining, the Chiefs need one more win and the Jets and Steelers to lose one of their games in order to clinch a spot in the Wildcard. They even still have a shot at winning the AFC West should Denver lose their next game.
