Kansas City Chiefs Keep Climbing NFL Power Rankings

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs are the hottest team in the NFL, and the latest NFL Power Rankings tend to agree.

After the KC Chiefs fell to 1-5 with a Week 6 loss at Minnesota, the team bottomed-out at 29th in ESPN.com’s NFL Power Rankings. They were ahead of only the Titans, Buccaneers and Jaguars, and they sat right behind the Browns and Ravens.

That was then, though.

Now, as the Chiefs (8-5) enter a Week 15 matchup with Baltimore, they’ve soared up just about every Power Rankings list you can find.

ESPN ranks the KC Chiefs No. 9 in its latest rankings released last night. The Chiefs have beat two of the teams ranked ahead of them – Steelers and Broncos – and two of the teams left on their regular season schedule are currently ranked 29th and 32nd.

The Chiefs will return from Baltimore and close out the season with back-t0-back home games at Arrowhead Stadium as they make a final push towards the AFC Playoffs.  To think the Chiefs could close the season on a 10-game win streak is preposterous and yet possible.

According to NFL.com’s Power Rankings, the Chiefs come in at No. 8. They sit one spot ahead of the Bengals on that list, a Cincinnati team that might have lost its starting quarterback with a pain-in-the-neck thumb injury. And the Chiefs roll on, per NFL.com:

"Yet, Kansas City tightened up with some help from, well, the crummy Chargers: first a delay-of-game, then the Danny Woodhead drop. All I know is this: The Chiefs are going 11-5, and Tamba Hali looks reaaaaaalll nice when he gets a little R&R during the week."

Yahoo.com sees the Chiefs like the rest of them. They rank Kansas City right at No. 8, and firmly among the rest of the NFL playoff contenders. Here, the Chiefs rank one spot ahead of the Packers, a team that ran the Chiefs out of Lambeau Field back in Week 3. From Yahoo:

"Not the most impressive performance at home, but the conditions weren’t great either. Whatever, it was a win. No big deal unless the offense falters again next week, then maybe we’ll revisit."

It’s a consensus around the league, apparently: the Chiefs have settled right on the fringe of the Top 8 teams in the National Football League.

The only thing crazier than that was the fans calling for John Dorsey and Andy Reid‘s jobs after a dreadful first six weeks of the season, and sounding the alarm that the Chiefs were destined for another Top 5 draft pick.
