Kansas City Chiefs: Watch Out For Trap Games
The Kansas City Chiefs are on fire right now. They’ve gone from a 1-5 record to a 7-5 record after winning six straight games.
Everyone in Kansas City is excited about the KC Chiefs, and why shouldn’t they be?
This was a team that looked sure set on drafting within the top five in the 2016 NFL Draft. They looked so demoralized after that last minute loss to the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football in week two and the season looked done for sure after Jamaal Charles was deemed out for the year after week five.
Since a week six loss to the Minnesota Vikings though, the Chiefs have not lost. They’ve won six straight games and are currently sitting in the fifth spot in the playoffs, also known as the first Wildcard position for the AFC.

While all of this is exciting, my advice to fans is to not get too cocky and to watch out for trap games.
Yes, the Chiefs face one of the easiest schedules down the stretch. Yes, they’ve been playing so much better since weeks two through six, but anything can happen.
The Kansas City Chiefs face division rival San Diego this Sunday, and while the game doesn’t scare many, it scares me. The Chargers are lousy this year, posting a 3-9 record this season. San Diego has virtually no defense, and it’s basically been Philip Rivers doing all of the work for the Bolts.
Still though. Never count out a division opponent to ruin the party.
Remember all of those years of the bad Oakland Raiders teams marching into Arrowhead and knocking a good Chiefs team down a few pegs? It’s entirely possible that San Diego come to Kansas City on Sunday and do the same thing.
The following week will be on the road against the Baltimore Ravens, who will either send Matt Schaub or Jimmy Clausen under center for their team. Schaub and Clausen aren’t good quarterbacks, but it’ll be a road game in what could still be a loud M&T Bank Stadium.
The Cleveland game is the least scary of all of the remaining games, but Johnny Manziel could spark something in the Browns offense. You just never know.

By far the scariest game left though is the season finale against the Oakland Raiders. If the Chiefs win against the aforementioned opponents, then the game against Oakland won’t be as crucial. If, however, they fall to either San Diego, Baltimore, or Cleveland (or more than one…), this game against Oakland could be huge.
We saw this past weekend how the Raiders aren’t the same Raiders of the past ten years. They’re competitive now, and not just against the Chiefs, against all teams. This could be a fight to the death for both of these squads in week 17.
So, Chiefs fans, while I get the excitement of your team going from 1-5 to 7-5 and potentially making the playoffs, I caution you to hold off on the champagne celebrations for now. Trap games exist and they’ll break your heart.

Hopefully I’m wrong and the Chiefs win out heading into the playoffs, but just in case… Please celebrate responsibly.
