facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs take on the San Diego Chargers tomorrow, look to move to 4-1 in division games.

The Kansas City Chiefs (7-5) could win its seventh consecutive game this Sunday. They haven’t lost since Oct. 18. It’s a home matchup with a bottom-feeding Chargers (3-9) team, and Kansas City would move another step closer to a playoff spot with a win at Arrowhead Stadium.

Unfortunately the Chiefs will be without linebacker Justin Houston again, according to the KC Star. He’ll miss his second straight game with a knee injury, and the the Chiefs defense will have its hands full with Philip Rivers‘ offense.

The four remaining opponents for the Chiefs, including San Diego, are a combined 14-34 this season. Three of those four games are at home. With good health and a few strong showings, this team could head into the playoffs with nine or 10 wins, after starting the season 1-5.

The Chiefs are first in the NFL with nine interceptions in the last four weeks, and second in the NFL during that time with 13 sacks. And the offense? The Chiefs are averaging more than 32 points per game during its six-game win streak. Quarterback Alex Smith has thrown for 2,843 yards, with 14 touchdowns to three interceptions this season.

KC Chiefs’ veteran-led defense is best in years (KC Kingdom)

"The Kansas City Chiefs defense this season is tied for seventh in the NFL with 240 points allowed, and tenth in the league in yards against. Since allowing 31 points to the Broncos, 38 points to the Packers, and 36 to the Bengals in consecutive weeks, the Chiefs defense has been as good as any in the game. While there’s young talent like Dontari Poe, Jaye Howard and Marcus Peters, it’s the veteran Chiefs players who built this defense into a contender after a rough first four weeks of the season."

KC Chiefs: Jeremy Maclin is the answer (Arrowhead Addict)

"Smith and Maclin have seemed to develop a good chemistry in their first year together, and chemistry is why a play like this can be made so easily. Maclin runs a simple dig (about 10 yards then in) route, which doesn’t seem like anything special when you see it run against off-man coverage, but it actually has a bit of nuance to it."

Jeremy Maclin’s impact in Kansas City (KC Kingdom)

"He has provided the Chiefs with it’s first legitimate down-field threat in a long time. Former Chief Dwayne Bowe could have been considered a deep threat at the beginning of his career, but by the time he left Kansas City, he was just a shell of himself. Now, he is with the Cleveland Browns and has continued to struggle as the highest paid active Browns wide out."

Five Things To Watch: Can the Chiefs slow down Rivers (KCChiefs.com)

More from KC Kingdom

"“I think he’s done a great job, considering all the injuries they’ve had around him,” Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton said of Rivers. “Their offense, for the most part, has been pretty good. When you deal with him, you better be ready to play the entire game.“It’s just the way he is— he’s ultracompetitive, he doesn’t blink, he’s tough-minded, he’ll sit in that pocket, he doesn’t care. You have to come to work when you play a guy like him.”"

What did the Chiefs learn about Dee Ford (Arrowhead Pride)

"You have a recent first round pick that is best suited as a situational pass rusher who can fill in for a full game but generally doesn’t display the all-around game you would hope to see from him … yet.If Houston can’t go this week, should Dee Ford get another start? Frank Zombo had success in the closing snaps of the game with back-to-back sacks. Should he be given a chance instead?"

Jamaal Charles: ‘I just want one more shot’ (Monday Morning Quarterback)

"“VRENTAS: What was the recent procedure you had done?CHARLES: Stem cells. I had it the first time when I had my surgery, and I had to go back after six weeks for another treatment. It went well.”"
