KC Royals News: Free Agents And End Of Winter Meetings

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Royals news consists of all of the free agents the Royals could target, and the end of the winter meetings.

Winter meetings have come and gone for the Kansas City Royals, and the boys in blue made a few moves. They re-signed pitcher Chris Young to a two-year deal and brought former reliever Joakim Soria back to Kansas City on a three-year deal (physical still pending at the moment).

Alex Gordon still hasn’t signed anywhere yet and it’s very possible that he could spend next season and beyond in another team’s jersey.

Ben Zobrist found a new home with the Chicago Cubs. He will be reunited with his former manager Joe Maddon, who he worked with during his days in Tampa Bay.

On a different note, the Royals did not select anyone in the Rule 5 Draft this year. They did, however, lose three guys to other teams in Daniel Stumpf (pitcher), Santiago Nessy (catcher), and Micah Gibbs (catchers).

Here is what FanSided.com is saying about the Royals.

Royals Rumors: Five Pitchers To Target In Free Agency [KC Kingdom]

"The Kansas City Royals need starting pitching. At this moment, the only shoe-ins to start in the rotation are Yordano Ventura and Edinson Volquez. The Royals also re-signed Chris Young to a two-year deal on Monday, but he’s not a for sure starter at this point in time and neither are Danny Duffy or Kris Medlen."

More from Kansas City Royals

"The need to kill the idea that the Kansas City Royals are crying for outfield help might also explain Moore’s proclamation that Jarrod Dyson would get a shot at starting this spring. Notice when Moore had the perfect opportunity to see what Dyson could do as a regular player after Alex Gordon’s groin injury, he quickly made a deals for Ben Zobrist and Jonny Gomes."

Royals Rumors: Royals Interested in Yoenis Cespedes [KC Kingdom]

"It would be hard to imagine the KC Royals actually making a serious offer to Cespedes. He does not fit their mold in that he swings and misses – a lot. In his four-year career, he has averaged 127 strikeouts a season, including 141 whiffs in 2015."

KC Royals: Chasing Todd Frazier Shows KC Priced Out Of LF Market [Kings of Kauffman]

"In short, Frazier is a slugger—which seems to fly in the face of the KC Royals established high-contact, put the ball in play offensive model. The other interesting question is the idea of converting Todd Frazier into an outfielder. He has played a grand total of 80.1 innings in the outfield for Cincinnati between 2011-13. He shows surprisingly strong defensive metrics as an outfielder, with an outrageously high 71.0 UZR/150 (Ultimate Zone Rating prorated over 150 innings)."

Here’s what the rest of the internet has to say about the Royals.

Royals G.M. Dayton Moore pleased so far with results of Winter Meetings [Kansas City Star]

"On Tuesday, Moore declared that Jarrod Dyson would occupy one of the corner outfield spots on a regular basis. A day later, he expressed his confidence that the team could survive without making any outfield additions, using Paulo Orlando plus a pool of minor-leaguers like Brett Eibner, Reymond Fuentes and Jose Martinez to fill the rest of the outfield void."

Royals talked to Reds about Todd Frazier as a left-field option [Royals Review]

More from KC Kingdom

"The 30-year old Frazier is under club control for two more seasons and will earn $7.5 million under his contract for next season. It would take a pretty good haul of prospects to land Frazier since the Reds are not in a hurry to move him. Stark follows up by speculating the Royals would have to give up Raul Mondesi and Miguel Almonte, a package they are not willing to give up."

This is the time of the off-season where everything is pure madness. Royals rumors are flying every which way and it’s tough to keep up sometimes.

The biggest things to know regarding the Royals are that they’ve signed Soria and Young, and lost Zobrist and Ryan Madson to other teams (Zobrist to Cubs, Madson to A’s). Alex Gordon has yet to make a decision on where he wants to play.
