KC Royals News: Ben Zobrist And Other Rumors

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Royals news mostly fixates on all of the different Royals rumors swirling, most notably of Ben Zobrist.

The Kansas City Royals knew they were in for a “fun” off-season after the 2015 season wrapped up. Not only would they possibly be losing long time Royal Alex Gordon, but Ben Zobrist was also up for free agency as well.

Zobrist wasn’t a Royal for very long, as he was acquired mid-season and helped push the boys in blue all the way to their first World Series championship in 30 years. Despite his short tenure in a Royals uniform, Zobrist captivated Kansas City during that span. He even gave his newborn daughter the middle name of Royal.

The team that seems most interested in Zobrist (there are about 20 overall that were originally in the race for the utility man) is the same team the Royals beat in the World Series. Zobrist reportedly met with the Mets on Wednesday and they very well could be the next home for Ben Zobrist and his family.

Let’s take a look at what Fansided.com has to say about Zobrist and other Royals rumors.

Royals Rumors: Hidden Advantages Of Re-Signing Ben Zobrist [KC Kingdom]

"We all know Ben’s a super-utility-on-base-percentage-switch-hitting-clubhouse-guy, but he can do that for anybody (or everybody, seeing as something around 20 teams originally had interest in him).Beyond the skill-set though, re-signing Zobrist would do more than simply place an aging, above-average hitter towards the top of the Royals lineup."

KC Royals: Zooming Price On Ben Zobrist Makes Alex Gordon Best Bet [Kings of Kauffman]

"With Alex Gordon’s crowd estimate for what he will command in the market place sitting at five-years, $90 million, Gordon might be the best free-agent value the KC Royals can expect to find if they hope to retain one of their main pieces (Johnny Cueto, Alex Gordon, Ben Zobrist) this winter."

KC Royals: Should KC Chase Former Phillies Ace Cliff Lee? [Kings of Kauffman]

"Though he is 37-years-old, what makes the possibility interesting is that he was pretty effective the last time he pitched in 2014. That season, Lee went 4-5 in 81.1 innings, with a 3.65 ERA. While that was only 3% above league average ERA+ (103), his 2.96 Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) suggested Lee should have gotten much better results."

Now let’s take a look at what the rest of the web is saying about these same topics.

Recruiting trip: Mets show Ben Zobrist grass is green in New York, too [ESPN]

"Ricco said he did not expect an imminent decision from Zobrist, but added that it seemed like the player had narrowed his focus of teams and should have a decision sooner than later. The Washington Nationals, San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly are among the other suitors."

Latest On Ben Zobrist [MLB Trade Rumors]

"The main roadblock for the Mets in previous Zobrist rumors has been that the team doesn’t want to go to a fourth year for Zobrist, who will play next season at age 35. Yahoo’s Jeff Passan recently pegged the asking price for Zobrist at about $60MM over four years, so it’s certainly possible that a fourth year will ultimately be required if the Mets want to land Zobrist."

Two interesting trade rumors [Royals Review]

"The first trade would be James Shields and Wil Myers to the Royals. The second trade would be Carlos Gonzalez and DJ Lemahieu to the Royals. While both of these scenarios are unlikely, they both seem to make sense."
