KU Football: Video Lowlights of Horrific Season Parodied Online

facebooktwitterreddit

The KU football team struggled through the worst season in school history. The Kansas Jayhawks are now an easy target for online jokesters.

The Kansas Jayhawks went 0-12 this football season and set a record for the most losses in school history. The school has fielded a team since 1890, and this was only the second time in their history their football team went winless. The other instance was way back in 1954 when the Jayhawks suffered ten losses.

The Jayhawks have been just awful in recent years. From 2009 through 2014, the KU football team won all of 12 contests, equaling the total of games they won just eight seasons ago. In the 2007 season, the Jayhawks went 12-1, including a victory in the Orange Bowl.

Now, they are fodder for online pranksters.

A website called Total Frat Move parodied the craptastic season in a video. Non-Jayhawk fans will love this video, which you can watch right here. Kansas fans may want to avoid this video unless you need a good cry.

The KU football team currently ranks 68th in the nation (out of 127 teams) in passing yards with 2,623 yards. They rank 120th in rushing yards with 1,355 yards, and 115th in total offense. That is the good news.

On defense, they rank 124th in passing yards allowed, and 124th in rushing yards allowed. You don’t have to be a mathlete to figure out they were dead last in total yards surrendered. They have up nearly 800 more yards than the next to worst team in the country. Opponents averaged 560.8 yards a contest against the Jayhawks.

As you might have guessed, these stats did not translate well on the scoreboard either. The Jayhawks ranked 122nd in the nation with just 15.3 points an outing. Defensively, they allowed 46.1 points a game, the worst mark in the country.

This means they outscored by more than 30 points a game, on average.

There is no way to pretty this up. They lost on opening day, at home to South Dakota State. It was the first win ever by South Dakota State against a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), or Division One, school. The season went downhill from there.

Against Baylor at home, many of the Bears starters came out after halftime without their helmets or shoulder pads. Often, games were over by the end of the first quarter.

It is hard not to feel sorry for head coach Dave Beaty. He took over a program with little talent. They suited up less than 70 scholarship players. They played numerous freshmen at several positions for most of the season.

The only hope is that those freshmen gained enough experience to make quicker improvements in the next season or two.

KU football still appears to be several seasons away from being competitive. Hopefully, Beaty can improve the quality of recruits and can speed up the process.
