Kansas City Royals: World Series Champions

The Kansas City Royals are World Series champions.

Man, it feels good to type that sentence! The Kansas City Royals are the best team in the world after defeating the New York Mets in five games.

Not only did the Royals win the whole title, but they won it all in dramatic fashion. Matt Harvey was dealing, but the Royals tied things up in the ninth and later went on to score five runs in the twelfth inning, and then watched as Wade Davis got the save and the final win of the season.

The last time the Royals won the World Series was in 1985. Thirty years ago. I had never seen my Kansas City Royals win a championship. After last season’s heartbreaking ending, I thought, “That was our chance”, but they proved me wrong. They proved all of us wrong.

The Royals’ Game 7 loss last year ignited a fire in them, and that fire showed all season long. The Kansas City Royals wanted the crown in 2015, and in the end, they got it. They not only got it, but they continued to prove time and time again that they were relentless. This team did not quit. They battled back time and time again, and showed why they deserve to be world champions.

It’s still surreal, and I’m sure as the day progresses on Monday that it’ll eventually sink in and I’ll start bawling at my desk at work. Right now though, I’m still trying to just soak everything up. I’m still sitting here, wondering if this is all a dream.

After an ALDS where all of Royals fans thought their season was done (come on, admit it, you were one of them), the boys in blue battled for five runs to take the lead and eventually won the series against the Astros. They then went on to beat the Blue Jays in six games.

Looking at the Mets’ rotation was scary. They had dominant starters, and all four of them could be considered aces. That didn’t scare the Royals though, and they won the World Series in only five games.

It’s been an incredible ride Royals fans, and here’s my advice… Don’t forget this moment. I haven’t experienced my baseball team winning a title before, but now that I have, I never want to forget the feeling.

I never want to forget the feeling of Wade Davis recording that final out and watching him and Drew Butera meet each other half way and hug. I never want to forget the feeling of Salvador Perez being named World Series MVP. I never want to forget watching this team celebrate with champagne showers in the locker room.
