Third Base, Mike Moustakas
Many have forgotten, but Mike Moustakas was a finalist for a Gold Glove award back in 2012, after his first full season on the squad. Last year, his dugout catch in Game 3 of the ALCS (one of two spectacular plays he made that night) was mesmerizing enough to elicit comparisons to George Brett’s fielding skills and dugout antics.

Unfortunately for Moose, competition at third base is steep.
Adrian Beltre and Manny Machado each have three times as many Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) this year as Moose, and it would be an understatement to say they’ve been there before.
Besides Alex Gordon, these two guys are the only other American League players to have won the Platinum Glove Award (given to the fan-voted best defender in each league) since its inception in 2011.
It doesn’t help that Josh Donaldson, potentially the American League Most Valuable Player, also ranks ahead of Moose.
Moustakas is a well above-average third baseman who makes a spectacular play every so often, but he’s going to have some stiff competition here for years to come.
