Kansas City Sports: Who Should Fans Be More Excited For

facebooktwitterreddit

Kansas City sports fans haven’t always had a lot to cheer. Things have been looking up significantly in the last few years, though.

Kansas City sports fans haven’t had it easy during my 24 years on this lovely Earth. Between the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals, if fans are like me, they have spent a lot of time crying after games.

The Chiefs haven’t won a playoff game since the 1993 season when Joe Montana was the quarterback in Kansas City. It was also against a franchise who aren’t even in existence anymore (the Houston Oilers). I was three years old when this game took place.

The Royals broke a 29-year postseason drought last year and made it all the way to the Game 7 of the World Series only to lose with the tying run at third base. This year, the Royals won the American League Central for the first time ever, and it was their first division title in 30 years.

So, now the question is… Which team should fans be more excited to watch in the future?

It seems obvious that the Royals would be the choice, but they’re currently in their window of trying to win a title. The Chiefs are just now on the rise and could mean they’re the most exciting team moving forward.

There was a lot of optimism for the Chiefs heading into the 2015 season, and even after a terrible defeat to the Broncos in week two, fans still seem encouraged about this season.

There’s no question that the Royals have been fun to watch since on the rise at the end of the 2013 season. You would slowly start to see more Royals shirts and hats around Kansas City and could strike up a conversation about the team to almost anyone in town.

  • The Royals captured the hearts of everyone in Kansas City last season, and I hadn’t seen anything like it in my lifetime. During the incredible postseason run, the people in Kansas City seemed enthusiastic and were always in a good mood, mostly in part due to the Royals. It was incredible and such a fun time to live in this city.

Chiefs football is life though in Kansas City. Even in 2012 when the team was awful, people still stood by this team and watched games. I wonder if the Royals sink back to nothing in the next few years if it is the same thing for them.

Me personally, it’s tough to say for which I’m more excited. I love that the Royals are playoff bound again and that they’ve proven they can win in high-pressure situations, but I’m always going to be a football, girl. I’d love nothing more than to see my Kansas City Chiefs go the distance and win the Super Bowl.

If we’re talking about just for the future, I would almost go with the Chiefs because the Royals are currently in their window to win a title. The Chiefs are just now going on the rise.
