Kansas City Royals: 2015 American League Central Champions

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Royals are the champions of the American League Central.

By this point, it’s old news.

Our beloved boys in blue have won the American League Central for the first time ever. They’ve won a division title for the first time since 1985, when they last took home the World Series title.

More from Kansas City Royals

It’s an exciting time to be a Kansas City Royals fan, and we all have every right to celebrate after Thursday night’s clinching game over the Seattle Mariners.

Going into the game, the Royals’ magic number was down to two. The Minnesota Twins helped out the Royals by losing 6-3 to the Cleveland Indians near the end of the Royals’ game against Seattle. Wade Davis was able to close the game out to give Kansas City their first American League Central title ever.

This time last year was a whole different story for the Royals. The division belonged to the Detroit Tigers, and the Royals were charging just to make it into the playoffs as a Wildcard. My how much things have changed for this team in just a year.

The competitiveness shouldn’t stop after clinching a division title though. The Royals still have home field advantage to fight for, and that’s extremely important in a postseason run. As of September 24th, the Royals have a two game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays for home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

  • Basically, be rooting against the Blue Jays until now and… well, until the end of the season. Their the Royals’ biggest and scariest competition heading into the playoffs and the less games the Blue Jays can have at home, the better.

The Royals are also a much better team at Kauffman Stadium, which makes home field advantage that much more important. The fans are always pumping the players up and that’s huge for a playoff run.

All in all though, it’s been a fun season. The Royals had a lot to prove heading into this season coming off a World Series Game 7 loss in 2014, and boy did they break out in song early on this season. Cruising to a 7-0 lead to jump start the season, the Royals at one point led the division by 15 games and had a six game advantage for home field throughout the playoffs.

They’ve been one of the most fun teams to watch in 2015, and that certainly carried on from last year when they stole the hearts of Kansas City natives and baseball fans everywhere.

Now there’s still one more goal, however, and that’s winning the whole damn thing. Let’s make sure it’s the right team holding up the Commissioner’s Trophy at Kauffman Stadium this time around!

    Go Royals!
