Kansas City Chiefs: Two Rookies Impressing Early On

The Kansas City Chiefs are 1-1 after two weeks of play, and two players have looked good so far for the team. Two of those guys are rookies.

The Chiefs‘ first two picks in the 2015 NFL Draft have been showing up early on in the season, and analysts have certainly noticed. First round pick cornerback Marcus Peters and second round pick center Mitch Morse have both earned nods from Mel Kiper Jr. and Pro Football Focus.

Kiper’s rankings were the top 20 rookies so far in 2015. Obviously it’s early in the season, but it’s still impressive to see two Chiefs rookies earn a spot on this list.

Pro Football Focus’ list is on the top ten rookies heading into the third week of the 2015 NFL season.

Peters has been outstanding in two games so far. He’s had two interceptions in two games, one coming in his very first defensive snap in the NFL to pick off Brian Hoyer. Peters’ other interception came off of Peyton Manning and went 55 yards for a touchdown.

Morse won the starting center job over third year man Eric Kush, who was released before the regular season began. Morse hasn’t made any critical mistakes and has held his own against the likes of guys like Vince Wilfork.

Here is what Kiper had to say about both guys,

  • "“Heading into the draft, I wrote: ‘On tape alone, he has an argument as the top cornerback in the class.’ Peters looks like it so far. He has an interception in each of his first two games, including a pick-six against Peyton Manning in Week 2. So far, so good.”“I knew the Chiefs were interested in Morse going into the draft, but I can tell you they had him rated a lot higher than I did. This is a case of them seeing a perfect fit, and Morse has looked the part of a veteran through two games.”"

Kiper certainly has points with both rookies. Peters has looked great, and Morse has proven that he deserved to be drafted when he did. Here was what Pro Football Focus said,

"“He leads the league with his six passes defended through two games, and while there is an element of boom-or-bust to his game, he’s made a positive impact overall.”“Unable to replicate his stellar opening week against Denver in Week 2, Morse can still be considered an early-season success for how well he has adjusted to a new position, and to the NFL.”"

It’s only been two weeks, but the Kansas City Chiefs’ rookies are catching the eyes of everyone throughout the league.
