KC Chiefs: Who Will The Offensive Weapons Be In 2015
The KC Chiefs kick off their 2015 season a week from Sunday, and there’s a lot to be optimistic about this season.
Both the offense and defense should look pretty good in 2015, but who are going to be the offensive weapons for the Kansas City Chiefs this year?
The Chiefs went out and got Jeremy Maclin as their number one receiver, and for good reason. We all know that the Chiefs did not complete a touchdown pass to a wide receiver in 2015, and with guys like Dwayne Bowe, Donnie Avery, A.J. Jenkins, and Junior Hemingway leading the charge last season, why is that surprising to anyone?

The truth of the matter is that the wide receivers in Kansas City last season were a joke.
Jeremy Maclin brings a true wide receiver target for quarterback Alex Smith in the passing game. With Maclin, Smith will have a guy that he knows he can get the ball to in critical situations.
The addition of Maclin was even better for the KC Chiefs because getting the ball to Travis Kelce would be difficult this season, now that other teams have seen what the guy can do. Kelce is a monster on the field, and was the Chiefs’ leading receiver last season. He had five touchdowns and over 800 yards receiving.
There’s also Jamaal Charles, one of the best running backs in the league, who will easily be one of the offensive stars of this team. Assuming the offensive line creates holes for him and that he can stay healthy, Charles is poised for another big year with the Kansas City Chiefs.
He’s given us no reason to think that he can’t repeat his successful seasons, and now with an improved line (hopefully), Charles should be able to keep impressing.

Also, don’t overlook De’Anthony Thomas. Sure, Thomas is mostly known as a special teams guy, but if Smith can get him the ball at any given time in a game, we all know what Thomas is capable of. His speed makes him a huge threat on the field, and the Chiefs will most definitely take advantage of that.
Of course, a large part of the success will depend on how Alex Smith does in his third year with the offense. Smith has to get his weapons the ball in order for the team to succeed.
Fans are critical of Smith, largely because he has shown a dislike for throwing the ball downfield, but this year is Smith’s year. I strongly believe that Alex Smith has what it takes to get the KC Chiefs to the next level.
If the Chiefs don’t have a good season this year, the window will close pretty quickly. This is the year for the Kansas City Chiefs to make a run, and hopefully Smith can utilize his offensive weapons and get points on the board.
It’s tough to look at guys like Jeremy Maclin, Travis Kelce, and Jamaal Charles, and think anything less than an AFC West division title, but these guys have to play their best football each week. If one of these guys goes down, it’ll be a much tougher task to win the AFC West.
