In a Perfect World, the KC Royals Would Keep This Team Together

In a perfect world, the KC Royals would re-sign Morales, Madson, Gordon, and Zobrist. If they did, the payroll would be closer to $145 million, just for the Opening Day 25-man roster. It would be unbelievable if the Glass family would be willing to pay that price tag to keep this team together for another year.

Fans would love it, for sure. Would the Royals be able to afford it in reality? Just how much extra money have they made this season with all the success? Remember, their payroll was already at a franchise high.

This doesn’t even include having someone around to fill in as a fifth starter until Vargas can return and be effective again. It will be extremely difficult for them to bring both Gordon and Zobrist back next season.

There isn’t much doubt the KC Royals will set a new franchise record in payroll in 2016, but it will be very interesting to see the make-up of the team. A third of the roster will need to be filled, and the payroll will already be sitting close to $103 million.

Dayton Moore is going to have his work cut out for him this offseason. Just how much money he has to spend could very well hinge on how far the Royals go in the playoffs. If they fall short of the World Series, there will probably be less money.

If they make it to a second consecutive World Series, they may have enough money made available for the payroll to approach $140 or $145 million. It should be interesting.
