KC Chiefs: There Is A Lot To Like About Chiefs So Far

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs are now 3-0 in preseason action, after downing the Tennessee Titans on Friday night.

Yes, it’s just preseason, but there’s been quite a bit to like watching the Kansas City Chiefs play so far. The Chiefs absolutely dominated the Titans on Friday night by a score of 34-10, and both sides of the ball looked pretty good honestly.

Alex Smith turned heads with his play against the Titans too, which was a good sign. Smith had thrown two picks in two games and only one touchdown but followed up two less than stellar performances with a phenomenal performance on Friday.

  • Smith went 16 of 18 for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Smith found Jeremy Maclin seven times on Friday night for 65 yards and a touchdown. He also hit Travis Kelce for a touchdown.

The offense should give fans plenty to cheer for in 2015, and we got to see a preview of that against the Titans. Smith was cruising, Maclin was on fire, and Kelce was his usual self. Jamaal Charles only carried the ball three times, but looked like the Jamaal we know and love.

The biggest weakness for the Chiefs dating back to last season is the offensive line, and it looked pretty solid on Friday. Smith wasn’t sacked once, and he even had time to make plays, something that was unheard of in 2014.

The defense also has promise for the 2015 season, as they look to continue building on their dominance throughout the league. Justin Houston had a sack on Friday on Marcus Mariota, and Ramik Wilson has been a nice surprise.

Despite a young secondary with Marcus Peters and Phillip Gaines holding things down in the starting cornerback slots, the defense should be one of the best in the league. Don’t forget that Sean Smith will be back for week four too, adding to the intensity of this defense.

Now I typically don’t get super excited for Chiefs football. I remember how pumped I was heading into 2011, and then the Chiefs were outscored 89-10 in their first two games. Yup, still stings.

My point is that I’m usually quite the pessimist when it comes to KC Chiefs football. In fact, I started following the New Orleans Saints in 2006 so that I could have a team in both conferences, and because the Chiefs never got to the promise land.

This is the most excited I’ve been for Kansas City Chiefs football in a long time, and the first time I’ve had more optimism for the Chiefs than I have for the Saints.

Hopefully the rest of Chiefs Kingdom is pumped up and ready to go for the 2015 season too. It should be a fun one.
