The KC Royals grinded out a 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles last night behind strong pitching depth.

That makes it eight straight wins for the KC Royals against the Orioles.

Starting pitcher Danny Duffy (7-6) pitched into the sixth inning, allowing two earned runs, five strikeouts and two walks. He left two-on, two-out for reliever Luke Hochevar, the first of three shutdown bullpen innings. Reliever Kelvin Herrera pitched, then finally reliever Wade Davis for the one-run save in the ninth inning.

Designated hitter Kendrys Morales added to his RBI total with a second-inning solo home run. He leads the team with 86 RBI and he’s homered 14 times this season. He also added two walks.

Pitcher Kris Medlen (2-0) joined the KC Royals rotation on Monday, throwing six innings of three-run baseball. He picked up his second win of the season and should take the bump again on Saturday.

Outfielder Alex Gordon continues his rehab at Triple-A Omaha. He homered in his first rehab game back, according to FoxSports.com.

Gordon explained to KCTV-5 News the main concern in recovering from his groin injury:

"“Hitting’s not that that big of an issue. It’s more the first step. game situation, when that adrenaline kicks in, that quick burst or at the last second trying to make a diving catch or something like that’s probably gonna be the toughest,” Gordon shared."

The Royals host the Orioles for two more games before traveling to Tampa Bay for a three-game weekend set against the Rays. Here’s the latest Royals links and news.

Is Yordano Ventura Back To His 2014 Form [Leigh Oleszczak – KC Kingdom]

"The beef with those players wouldn’t have been so bad if Ventura had completely backed it up on the mound and pitched like he did in Game 6 of the World Series last season.Kansas City Royals fans would see flashes of potential from Ventura this season, but then he’d follow it up with a less than stellar outing and the Royals would be back to square one."

KC Royals: Joba Chamberlain Could Help Royals This Season [Alec Tilson – KC Kingdom]

"Actually Chamberlain isn’t far removed from a solid 2014 season, and he’s a career 3.82 ERA pitcher in 529 and 2/3 innings pitched. In 2014 Chamberlain posted 3.57 ERA in 69 games for the Tigers. He struck out 8.4 batters per-nine-innings and allowed just three home runs all season, according to Baseball-Reference. He was a workhorse for the A.L. Central champions, a team that won 90 games."

KC Royals: Johnny Cueto Gaffe Could Undermine Team [John Viril – Kings Of Kauffman]

"On one hand, I’d like to think Johnny Cueto‘s statements are a whole lot of nothing. A Boston-area reporter asked him leading questions, and it’s a normal human impulse to please the crowd. Certainly, a pending free agent doesn’t want to say anything BAD about a potential suitor—especially when the team in question is a big market club that could drive your price up if they go hard after you."

KC Royals Got More Than Expected From Kris Medlen [David Hill – Kings Of Kauffman]

"As Medlen had yet to pitch more than 3.2 innings in any outing, or to pitch more than 52 pitches this season, not much was expected. With Dave Eiland saying that it would likely take Medlen two or three starts to get up to 90 to 100 pitches, it was expected that Medlen’s first start was going to be a short outing."

Kris Medlen Might Be Royals Best October Surprise [David Brown – CBS Sports]

"“I tried to not make it about myself,” Medlen said. “I’ve said from the get-go, I didn’t want this to be a pity party (or) a ‘Yay, you did it!’ I just expected to come here and work and produce, and I’m very thankful for — and I’ve said it every interview I’ve done — I’m very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this team.”"

The New ‘Way’ Of Team Building: The Royals Way [David Schoenfield – ESPN]

"Those picks are sort of tied into the concept that Moore wasn’t initially trying to build around defense. He drafted Moustakas and Hosmer because the Royals projected big-time offensive production. Moustakas was moved to third base early in his pro career. And if you’re building around defense, you don’t take a high school first baseman with the third pick."

MLB Power Rankings: An Updated Look At All 30 Teams [Joel Reuter – Bleacher Report]

"In a season ripe with parity around the league, the Kansas City Royals enter the week with a 12.5-game lead over the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central, by far the biggest division cushion in baseball."

The Top Ten Hits Of Alex Gordon’s Career [Matthew LaMar – SB Nation]

"Yesterday, Alex Gordon began his rehab assignment in Omaha. He has been recovering from a groin injury suffered in early July, and his presence has been missed. Gordon was the Royals’ first-round draft pick in 2005, and made his much-hyped debut in 2007. In 2011, he made the step from mediocre third baseman to best left fielder in baseball."
