The Royals are in the driver’s seat and that is a nice place to be.

The reality is, the types of American League playoff teams I’m most concerned about are those who could silence the Royals bats for multiple days (read: Astros).

If we can limit the number of David Price matchups to one, I’m not nearly as concerned about the Jays.

Unfortunately, the only way to guarantee this scenario is to have them as a Wild Card team.

Now, if you’re under the impression that the Blue Jays should not be the most feared American League team (other than the Royals), or that it would be better to start with the weakest opponent possible, then root for whoever you desire.

However, if your ears perked out at the Price and Tulo signings, and then you started to notice a lot of wins piling up for Toronto, join me in cheering on the Yankees this September.  Once October hits, then that’s a separate conversation altogether.

It is an unprecedented treat to be able to think about possible playoff matchups for the Kansas City Royals in mid-August.

While nothing is a sure thing, it is refreshing to be able to look ahead with some sense of security that the Royals have what it takes to make another run to the World Series
