The Kansas City Royals lost 2-1 last night and now have one game to play before returning to Kansas City for a 10-game home stand.

The KC Royals fell to the Detroit Tigers last night in game two of a three-game set at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Newly-acquired starting pitcher Johnny Cueto tossed seven innings of two run baseball. He allowed five hits, two walks and struck out two batters in his second start in a Royals’ uniform. Despite back-to-back quality starts on the road against Toronto and Detroit, Cueto falls to 0-1 with his new team.

KC Royals: The Truth About Jeremy Guthrie [Jonathan B. Lerner – Kings Of Kauffman]

"Jeremy Guthrie is an extremely likeable guy. He collects shoes, speaks multiple languages, is all over social media, etc. I have no doubt that he is well-liked by his teammates, and that he plays a positive role in the clubhouse.  There is just one problem, though: as a pitcher, he has been awful."

Power Ranking Each MLB Team In Aftermath Of Trade Deadline [Kyle Franzoni – FanSided.com]

"The Kansas City Royals came into the trade deadline sporting the best record in the American League, but also had some very glaring holes. From a rotation that has underperformed to a sudden need in left field due to an injury to Alex Gordon, the Royals had a very specific plan in place for how to make a return trip to the World Series."

KC Royals: Detroit Tigers No Longer Run The A.L. Central [Alec Tilson – KC Kingdom]

"The Tigers, as Royals’ fans have known them for the last five years, are done. Last night, they wanted nothing to do with a Royals team that had lost four-of-five games and is apparently blood-thirsty in its pursuit of another postseason. As far as 2015 goes, the Tigers packed up and went home. The Tigers sold at the deadline, the Royals bought, and the A.L. Central baton is off-and-running in the hands of the Royals, who’s lead in the division stretched to 9.5 games with the win."

KC Royals: Still Biggest Threat In American League [Leigh Oleszczak – KC Kingdom]

"The need for a front-line starter was clear and becoming more pronounced. The Royals moved to correct the course by landing arguably the best pitcher they’ve had since Zack Greinke. Arguable with respect to James Shields."

Adjusting Royals’ Offseason Goals Post-Deadline [Karl Buscheck – Bleacher Report]

"The Royals should do everything they can to bring back Ben Zobrist, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Zobrist’s defensive versatility is especially valuable to the Royals, as he not only provides cover in the outfield but also at second base, where Omar Infante has been highly suspect in 2015 (.231 average)."

Royals To Honor 9-Year-Old Bat Boy Kaiser Carlile [CBS News]

"Kansas City Royals professional baseball team announced on its Twitter account on Tuesday that it would honor 9-year-old Kaiser Carlile prior to a future game.Kaiser died after he was accidentally hit in the head by a practice swing by an on-deck hitter at the National Baseball Congress World Series game on Saturday in Wichita. "Coming soon to a theater near you — or not, considering it’s a documentary — Sneakerheadz, “starring” Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie."

Royals’ Top-30 Prospects List Gets Mid-Season Update [MLB.com]

Danny Duffy Has Had Mixed Results Since Returning From Injury [Kevin Ruprecht – Royals Review]

"Conveniently, Duffy has made eight starts since returning from the DL (including last night’s). He has thrown 50.2 innings in those eight starts (6.1 innings per start). Duffy has eschewed strikeouts even more; his strikeout rate of 11.9 percent is almost equal to Jeremy Guthrie’s. His walk rate of 8.9 percent is a little better, so that’s good."
