Fantasy Football Defenses Number 1: Seattle Seahawks
At #1, the Seattle Seahawks. This is the safest bet for fantasy football defenses, but it also provides some solid upside.
The Legion Of Boom is no joke, and it’s still mostly intact. It lost a key piece this offseason in cornerback Byron Maxwell, but they added former Eagles’ cover man Cary Williams, who slots right into the Seahawks’ right cornerback position.
He’s a serviceable veteran with good awareness, and he should help fill the Maxwell void in the LOB.
Richard Sherman is great, Earl Thomas III and Kam Chancellor are hunters, and even Jeremy Lane is a good depth piece at cornerback. He picked off Tom Brady in the Super Bowl, but might miss the start of the season due to injury.
In front of the secondary, the Seahawks still run out one of the better fronts in the NFL. Defensive end Michael Bennett and middle linebacker Bobby Wagner are All-Pro caliber players.
Cliff Avril and Brandon Mebane are right there, too. Mebane could miss a good amount of time in 2015, which would be a huge hit to the Seattle D.
Outside linebackers Bruce Irvin and K.J. Wright are two athletically-gifted guys. Irvin is playing for a contract and has shown some ability to rush the passer. K.J. Wright is a tackling machine, he just got paid.
Seattle is the number one defense until they’re dethroned. If you’re taking a defense early in drafts, you want a sure thing. And Seattle’s defense is as close to that as you’re going to find.
