KC Chiefs News: Eric Berry Is Back

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Chiefs news solely focuses around the return of safety Eric Berry.

The KC Chiefs started training camp this week, and the best news coming from camp is that safety Eric Berry is cancer free and was cleared to practice. Berry is certainly an inspiration and fans of any NFL team are thrilled about this news.

During the 2014 season, a mass was discovered in Berry’s chest following a game against the Oakland Raiders. It was later revealed that Berry had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It was unclear what his future in football would be, but Berry had a goal to play this season and now his goal has been accomplished.

Berry means a lot to Kansas City and to Chiefs fans. His leadership on the field is huge for the team and it’s great that he’ll be back in action and that he had a speedy recovery.

Berry is a huge inspiration and I was close to tears when I heard he’d been cleared to practice. Matt Verderame of Arrowhead Addict said it best in an article linked below (the quote is listed below as well) in that this is so much more than just a man returning to football. This a man who beat cancer and getting his life back.

Other news coming out of training camp was that Dontari Poe had back surgery and might miss part of the regular season.

Also, Cyrus Gray was cut from the team.

Now check out what’s trending throughout Fansided.com.

Eric Berry cleared to return to Chiefs [Arrowhead Addict]

"This is more than just about a player coming back to a football team. This is a beautiful thing. This is about a man getting his life back. Berry is only 26 years old, and we can all hope that this health scare will remain behind him for the rest of his life."

Eric Berry: What his return means for Kansas City Chiefs [Arrowhead Addict]

More from Kansas City Chiefs

"Assuming Berry can play immediately, Kansas City could put Berry and Abdullah at the starting safety spots and allow Parker to start on the outside along with Peters, letting Gaines move to his natural position of slot. Gaines has also dealt with injuries in his young career, so if he gets hurt, you have some flexibility with Jamell Fleming on the bench and Parker being able to play that spot."

KC Chiefs: Dontari Poe Out Indefinitely After Back Surgery [KC Kingdom]

"Poe injured his back initially working out this offseason, but was recently training at home in Memphis, Tennessee and re-aggravated the injury. He had surgery July 15th and will be out indefinitely, according to Skreta’s report published on The Washington Post’s website."

Chiefs release Cyrus Gray [Arrowhead Addict]

"Gray was originally a sixth-round pick in 2012 and stuck on the roster for the Chiefs despite never seeing consistent playing time. Gray was always a solid special teams player but never stood out to the level of players like Terrance Copper and Junior Hemingway. For his career, Gray rushed 24 times for 99 yards, scoring one memorable touchdown against the Miami Dolphins last year."

Eric Berry returns cancer-free to practice with Kansas City Chiefs [AL.com]

"Berry underwent chemotherapy at Emory University’s Winship Cancer Institute. He took chemo every two weeks, finishing on May 13. Berry chose to have the chemotherapy delivered via an IV rather than through a peripherally inserted central catheter. A PICC line would have made intravenous access easier, but also would have limited his ability to work out."

Chiefs safety Eric Berry returns to football field after being declared cancer-free [The Kansas City Star]

"On the outside, Berry has made it look easy. He had been remarkably quiet since he was forced to leave the Chiefs last November, with the most of the updates during his cancer treatment — all positive — coming via the Chiefs."
