KC Royals News: Trade Deadline, Gordon Progressing

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Royals news is swirling in front of the impending trade deadline, and there’s no shortage of speculation.

The trade deadline continues to creep closer, and it seems the Kansas City Royals are content to wait until the final days before July 31st to trade.

All in all, it’s been a tumultuous week for a team that’s 19 games over .500. The Royals’ rotation has become a chief concern after starting pitcher Jason Vargas exited in the second inning of his first start after returning from injury. The diagnosis wasn’t good either, as Vargas’ UCL was torn.

That forced the team to recall starting pitcher Yordano Ventura from Triple-A Omaha, and sent Royals Trade Deadline rumors into full-on chaos.

If the Royals indeed are shopping for starting pitchers, there’s plenty of arms available on the market. Reports indicated the Royals have shown interest in Reds’ pitcher Johnny Cueto and Rangers’ pitcher Yovani Gallardo. However, the latest from ESPN’s Jim Bowden indicates that the Royals are all-in on Johnny Cueto, and also interested in Mat Latos, Dan Haren and Jeff Samardzija.

It’s not unwise for the Royals to wait until the bitter end. With a week of games left before the deadline, there’s tons of information that the Royals can gather as they decide how to best load-up for the stretch run and beyond.

Royals Should Not Make Huge Trade [KC Kingdom – Leigh Oleszczak]

"The KC Royals sit 19 games over .500. Two days ago they were 21 games over .500 for the first time since 1989. They’re leading the American League Central by five and a half games. They’ve proven time and time again this season that they’re one of the, if not the, best teams in all of baseball. All of the reasons above are why I’m an advocate for the KC Royals not doing anything massive at the trade deadline."

Kansas City Royals Next Hall Of Fame Player [Kings Of Kauffman – David Hill]

"While there were players from the Royals on the ballot, with Jermaine Dye and Tom Gordon, neither came close to even staying on the ballot for a second year. In fact, Gordon was the only player to even receive one vote for enshrinement. When will the Royals have another player inducted, and when that happens, who will it be? Let us take a look over some of the most likely candidates at this point in time."

Johnny Cueto Trade Rumors: Yankees, Royals and Astros Likely Destinations [Fansided – Jack Jorgensen]

"All of these teams being in tight contention make sense more than anything, as they all have their sights set on a playoff push here in the second half. The Yankees are in first place in the AL East, with the Blue Jays currently 4.5 games behind them. The Royals have a significant 6.5 game lead in the NL Central, while the Astros are just two games behind the Angels in the AL West."

Kansas City Royals Need To Make Trade To Improve Rotation [Sports Illustrated – Cliff Corcoran]

"Teams looking to move a starting pitcher before next Friday’s non-waiver trade deadline should reach out to Royals GM Dayton Moore immediately. Among the 10 teams currently occupying playoff spots, none has a worse rotation ERA this season than Kansas City, which has a 4.32 mark that ranks 24th in all of baseball. Worse, the reinforcements the team was anticipating this month—via the returns of righthander Yordano Ventura and lefthander Jason Vargas from injury—have quickly gone up in smoke."
