KC Royals: Yordano Ventura Sent To Triple-A

The KC Royals seemed to have found a solution for their starting rotation dilemma, and that solution is to send former Opening Day starter Yordano Ventura to Triple-A Omaha, according to Andy McCullough of The Kansas City Star.

Ventura, as mentioned above, was the starter on Opening Day and threw a gem that day against the Chicago White Sox. He only allowed one run, but had to exit the game early due to a thumb cramp. His next start also saw him exiting early due to injury, and his third start was the infamous “let’s throw at Lawrie” shenanigans.

To sum up, Yordano Ventura has been disappointing this season as a starting pitcher for the Kansas City Royals.

His most recent start on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates was not good, to say the least. Ventura didn’t last five innings and allowed six runs against the Pirates, and also saw his ERA rise to 5.19. Not exactly the type of performance you expect from your so-called “ace”.

Royals fans have seen flashes of greatness from Ventura, that’s no question, but this season has not been stellar for the young pitcher. We have yet to really see that pitcher from Game 6 of the World Series last season who wowed the nation and helped lift the Royals to a must-win game by shutting out the Giants.

Going into this season, we all figured Ventura would be the ace of the staff, especially since James Shields departed during the off season. Instead, Ventura has struggled to be an ace. He’s left prematurely several times, some due to injury, some due to ejections, some due to not pitching well, and he’s struggled to keep his cool on the mound.

The Royals had questions surrounding their starting rotation, what with Jason Vargas returning from the disabled list. That left either Danny Duffy, Jeremy Guthrie, Chris Young, or Ventura exiting the rotation. I guess we have our answer now.

In all honesty, I feel like this is indeed the best move. McCullough said it best in one of his tweets regarding the news.

Hopefully this move will not come back to bite the KC Royals in the behinds as the season progresses, and hopefully Ventura understands that this is a business.

If Game 6 Yordano Ventura wants to pitch when he’s done with his stint in Omaha, Kansas City Royals fans will gladly take him, but for now, this is the best move in getting back to the World Series.
