KC Royals: Royals Shine In All-Star Game

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Royals saw six of their own participate in the 2015 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night, as the American League won 6-3 over the National League and will have home field advantage in the World Series.

In other words, should the Kansas City Royals make it back to the World Series for the second year in a row, they’ll get to host Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 at Kauffman Stadium. Hopefully that means they’ll get to hoist that trophy at Kauffman Stadium come the end of October.

The game started off with a bang when Mike Trout (who ended up winning the MVP award) homered off former Royal Zack Greinke in the very first inning. The National League tied things up in the second, but it was all American League for the rest of the evening.

The fourth inning was Joe Buck’s dream come true, as Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner came in to pitch for the National League and pitched against two members of the Royals. The KC Royals did something they couldn’t do against him in the World Series: Get on base.

Lorenzo Cain singled to center and then stole second base against Bumgarner, and then Salvador Perez got on base due to a wild pitch. The good news about this is that if this ends up being the World Series match-up again, the Royals know they can at least hit off of Bumgarner this time.

Cain then made a strong case for MVP (Trout was definitely deserving though) when he doubled to score Albert Pujols and to move Prince Fielder to third. That made the score 3-1 in favor of the American League in the fifth inning, and the American League didn’t trail again.

As for the rest of our beloved boys in blue, Alcides Escobar had one hit in the game, and did his part on defense.

Wade Davis did what he usually does, coming into the eighth inning and not allowing a run. Justin Upton singled off of him and stole second, but an amazing play by Jose Iglesias put an end to the inning. America got to continue to see Wade Davis kick butt, and it was awesome. Davis struck out two batters.

Mike Moustakas batted in the ninth inning and struck out against Aroldis Chapman of the Cincinnati Reds. The important thing is that he got into the game.

Kelvin Herrera was the only Royal not to see the field, but he did warm up at one point when Zach Britton struggled in the sixth inning.

Overall, it was cool to see the Kansas City Royals have a lot of representation at the All-Star Game and hopefully the boys in blue continue the hot streak they’ve been on throughout the rest of the season. Knowing that they have home field advantage in the World Series should pump them up even more so as the season progresses.

Go Royals!
