KC Chiefs: Tamba Hali and Jeremy Maclin Make NFL Top 100

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs had two players revealed on NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2015 countdown on Wednesday night: Tamba Hali at number 70 and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin at number 61.

Tamba Hali is a well respected player throughout the league and it shows from his appearance on this countdown. He only managed six sacks in 2014, but since the Top 100 is voted on by NFL players, a lot of them must have upmost respect for the nine-year veteran.

Kansas City loves Tamba too, especially after he re-negotiated his contract to stay with the KC Chiefs for what could be the last stretch of his admirable career.

The beginning of Hali’s video started with him yelling and pumping up his teammates as they exited the tunnel for an away game. Everyone that talks in it just talks about how awesome of a player he is, which is to be expected in these videos.

The highlights included Hali sacking Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers (both much to my delight), and Russell Wilson, and also him stripping the ball out of Tom Brady‘s hands in that incredible Monday Night game in September.

Last year, Tamba Hali was ranked 43rd on the countdown, and honestly, fans probably would have said him making this year’s countdown wasn’t a given. Hali dropped 27 spots, but is still easily one of the best linebackers in the National Football League.

As for Jeremy Maclin, he didn’t make an appearance on last year’s countdown. In case you forgot, Maclin missed all of 2013 due to an ACL tear, but bounced back in 2014 with the Philadelphia Eagles.

  • Maclin had 85 receptions for 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first season back from injured reserve. The Kansas City Chiefs have high hopes for him in 2015, as they released Dwayne Bowe, making Maclin their clear number one guy.

The Chiefs acquired Maclin during the off season in what was likely the biggest free agent acquisition for this team since Alex Smith was traded to Kansas City. I know that was only two years ago, but it feels like forever ago. This team hasn’t had the money to make big moves, and it was great to see Maclin pick the Kansas City Chiefs as his next team.

Maclin coming to KC seemed like an obvious choice. The 27 year old receiver played for the Missouri Tigers and also played the first five years of his career for head coach Andy Reid, who now coaches the Chiefs. The pieces were all there, but it was still a bit of a surprise for fans when Maclin said he wanted to be a Chief due to the salary issues (and then there’s that whole Emmanuel Sanders debacle; Link courtesy of Ian Rapoport of NFL.com).

The countdown left off at number 61, meaning there are still 60 more players yet to be revealed. What other KC Chiefs will appear? At this point of the countdown, we can rule out guys like Travis Kelce and Sean Smith. Both had great years, but aren’t quite well known enough to be ranked higher than 60. Alex Smith would have likely been revealed already had he made the countdown.

I imagine the Chiefs will have at least two more players on the countdown, those being Jamaal Charles and Justin Houston. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Dontari Poe make the cut either.

Who else do you think will make the Top 100 Players of 2015?
