We are only a matter of hours away from the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft where the KC Chiefs are currently slated to select a player with the 18th pick. Earlier today we here at KC Kingdom released our wish list for the first round of the draft and it had LSU offensive tackle La’el Collins as the fifth best option so you could say we were pretty high on him.
News surfaced today that La’el Collins was attempting to remove himself from the 2015 NFL Draft and enter the supplemental draft because of an off the field legal issue.
Jason La Canfora reported that La’el Collins is involved in a case in which a woman that he may have fathered a child with died.
Collins is not a suspect in a case involving the death of a woman with whom he may have fathered a child but police do want to talk to him..

La Canfora later elaborated further saying that police say that La’el Collins is not considered a suspect but they would like to question him.
Investigation and with Collins not a suspect, the police said they will speak to him at a later date. Given the sensitive nature of the case

Reports then started to come out that teams were hesitant about selecting La’el Collins at all, especially in the first round or top 15 as he was originally projected to go.
Multiple teams have removed LSU's OL La'el Collins from their draft board. In one week, has gone from potential 1 to off some boards.

Collins request to be taken out of the 2015 NFL Draft and put into the Supplemental Draft was rejected by the NFL. That means that Collins will still be available to any team that wishes to draft him.
NFL rejected La'el Collins' request to be removed from draft until police complete murder investigation, per source. No supp draft for him.

That begs the question of whether the risk is worth the reward for drafting La’el Collins? It would be a shock if any team takes Collins in the first round and I think that even the second round is too high.

Teams have grown much more wary of troubled players ever since the Aaron Hernandez incident and being questioned in the death of a woman is never a good look whether you are considered a suspect or not. The KC Chiefs are in a good position to drastically improve their team in the draft and there is no sense on gambling on their future.
If Collins falls into the third day of the draft then I would be in favor of the Chiefs using a late supplemental draft pick on him and letting the legal process play out because at that point the risk is worth the reward, but I don’t see it being worth it in the first two days.
