The Royals Are Now The Hunted – How Will They React?
The KC Royals are now in a strange position. They are going to catch no one unaware. They are now, for the first time in 30 years, the hunted.
This isn’t unique to the Royals, nor is it unique to baseball. The better you are, the more people want to beat you, and the more frustrated they get when they can’t. The milk and cookies era is over in Kansas City. The game is evolving.
That game your friends/coworkers/family have deemed “too slow” or “too boring” is morphing into something more emotional and exciting. It’s morphing around here for one reason, and one reason only–WINNING.
This is the next step. The first was the rise of the Royals, which has been coming for a couple seasons. The next is validating it, which is where we’re at now.
If we’re fortunate enough to make it to the next level–sustained success (also known as respectability), these types of incidents will become fewer and fewer.
What Royals fans need to understand is what is happening right now in KC is not uncharted waters. We’re just not used to it because MLB essentially operated without us for the greater part of the last 30 years.
The KC Royals need to respond to all of this attention in a positive way. They just need to keep winning ballgames. That is what winners do – they take everyone’s best shot, and they stay on their feet. The Kansas City Royals are going to be targets from here on. They need to show maturity in how they handle it.
We just didn’t see it, because nobody really cared about baseball. Well, here it is folks. This is what life is like on the top, and these are YOUR Kansas City Royals. If you don’t like it, I hear they’ve started televising curling.
